Wind Turbines

A turbine can create electricity from a natural renewable resource such as wind. Wind turbines use the power of the wind to create enough pressure on the blades to enable them to turn, which in turn creates kinetic energy. This mechanical energy is converted to electricity hence the name wind turbine or a wind generator. Once wind turbines convert this energy into electricity it is ready for distribution and use.
 Advantages of Wind Turbines
  • Your own clean energy power source
  • Reduce electricity bills
  • Export sent back into the national grid and you are paid for it
  • You are paid for the generation of your electricity
  • Feed-In Tariffs guaranteed for 25 years
  • Increases the value of your property
  • Long life span
  • Works all year round
  • High efficiency
  • Wind turbines can work all throughout the day and night providing wind is available
  • You can have one turbine to provide all your power
  • You will never have to worry about power cuts
  • Wind turbines are a great source of energy for remote areas which do not have access to the power grid (off-grid systems)

Example case study:

If a 15kW wind turbine was installed on a 15m tower in a suitable location with a sufficient wind resource, you could expect an annual yield of 36,237kWh of electricity. This is enough to power six 3 bedroom-detached houses or a small-medium commercial unit. With this in mind, the annual generation payment alone would be £9675.28. If you were to export any surplus electricity you would be paid for the export (minimum 3p per kWh).
